China and South Korea: Growing Misperception

Korea and China, Conflict in Koreas, China's Hostile Relations, China's Growing Power

China's Great Wall as Its Cultural Hallmark

“If China plagiarized fermentation of Kimchi, the traditional culture of South Korea would disappear”, A South Korean expressed (New York Times, Korean Assessment Towards China ). This proclamation unveils the misperception based on engagements China and South Korea share. The said misperception has spread to such an extent that both sides have become not only adversaries but also have impacts on the respective public's sentiments. That is why social media has exposed the aforementioned sentiments. The following factors behind the adversarial relation between Seoul and Beijing are note-worthy: China and Koreas

Both countries share adversarial relations mainly because of the (intra-Korean rift) between north and South Koreas. A full-fledged war was fought between the two Koreas and the northern swathe was fully supported by China. Since then, a military alliance was concluded between China and North Korea. Beijing and Pyongyang still affirm to ally.

South Korea directly perceives the (nuclear build-up by Northern Korea) as a security threat on one hand and a source of disturbing balance of power on the other. In this facet, Seoul also has divergence from China.

(China’s present emergence as the economic superpower) with immensely growing military muscle poses a grave threat to South Korea which begets a divergence between the two countries.

China and South Korean adverse engagements are self-evident particularly when the latter has forged a (military alliance with the USA) and other regional powers-hostile to China.

Thus, the two sides share a long history of hostile relations that have crept into the psyche of the Korean nationals. By and large, the said development is a herald of instability to the world peace. The future seems to be very acerbic in the phase of global stability. The same fate is likely to exist regarding relations between China and South Korea. The decision-makers must behave idealistically and strive to defuse the said tensions for regional and global peace and stability.
