Indian Protests, Law and Order, Governance
The massive sit-in to lodge a protest against the Indian government’s farmer’s law in New Delhi continues and a stalemate is going on. The farmers mostly belonging to Indian Punjab and Haryana started this protest on November 26, 2020.
Since then, 43 days have passed with no yielding tendency on both sides. The farmers term the said laws as a fork against their incomes whereas the Indian government declares the law as profitable for the farmers.

The farmers announce not to quit the protest until their demands are met and the segregating law is nullified. Thus, the talks between the government and farmers are put to deadlock.
Prime Minister Modi promised to increase the income of farmers to a maximum level till 2022 instead a massive and angry protest is indicating nothing to have been increased. Primarily, the governments in 2017 promised to invest almost 9 billion for the betterment of this sector which forms 40 % of employment in India. No investment as promised was materialized which pulled the farmers into a miserable condition.
Besides, they are heavily buried under the banks' loans. That is why the farmers are shockingly on the road to protest. This protest as led by Haryana and Punjab is being led also by women. A large number of women are leading farmers to protest in a community where women are restricted to participate in a publicly projected protest.
Moreover, Gursimrat Kaur, an 11-year young girl is also fighting for the rights of farmers in the said protest. She fights against the new reforms that will undercut farmers’ interests. Subsequently, the protest is entering a very critical situation as it seems to turn into anger mobilization. If the protest turns into anger and becomes violent, this will be difficult for the Indian government to control. This will also turn into a violent movement that New Delhi is unable to manage.
